... OSTERIA ... |
|
In one of those peaceful and out of the way valleys for which Umbria is so famous, along a secondary road that branches off from the main Perugia-Citta della Pieve road, you will find the Il Poggiolo Agriturismo, an elegant 18th century villa. Next to it you will find the Osteria OIO.
The Umbrian cuisine is marvellous and deeply rooted in local tradition, so much so that if you mention the names of some of the dishes elsewhere they elicit uncomprehending looks: brustengolo, incapriata, minestra di cicerchie, pesce finto, and so forth. Ancient recipes from age-old cook books, or even handed down orally from generation to generation, they have come to us with their down to earth ingredients and it would be a sacrilege to try to modify them or “re-interpret them in a modern way”.
These recipes were born this way and it was in this way that Pintoricchio savoured them when he came to live here among these hills seeking inspiration for his elegant and dreamy landscapes.
If you are looking for beluga caviar, Patè de canard or Discotech, this is not the place for you.
But if you want to look deeper into yourself and find out who you are, if you want to be enriched by the beauty expressed by Perugino, Giotto and Signorelli, then you have come to the right place.
Compliment this spiritual food with food for the body and discover Osteria OIO, sit down at its ancient table and, for a moment, leave today behind.
Challenge the Chef to create something simple and unique for you. You will find yourself in a mediaeval ambience where time has passed very very slowly. |
